In 2017, Karnataka became the first Indian state to announce an EV Policy. In this project, CSTEP identified key barriers in large-scale EV penetration, towards preparing a long-term implementation plan for public electric bus (e-bus) transportation for Bengaluru.
A GIS based, transport and electricity distribution infrastructure planning and visualisation tool was developed to identify feasible bus routes to operate an e-bus fleet. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) framework was used to estimate direct financial costs by comparing diesel variant bus with fully electric and hybrid bus variants.
